U.S. Government Collects Record $221.692 billion in Taxes for October 2016

The U.S. government has collected $221.692 billion in taxes for October, setting a record, but it still runs a deficit of $44.192 billion. The Treasury statement says that “This statement summarizes the financial activities of the Federal Government and off-budget Federal entities conducted in accordance with the Budget of the U.S. Government,” despite there never having been a public audit of the Federal Reserve, and how there is no audit of the Pentagon despite it being over half the discretionary spending of the U.S. government.
